Following the Bharatiya Janata Party's decisive victory in Gujarat, violence erupted in Vadodara and Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Indefinite curfew was clamped in communally sensitive Raopura area of Vadodara when people of two communities resorted to stone-throwing and arson soon after the victory of BJP's Yogesh Patel, police said.
The police said the trouble erupted when the victory procession of Patel passed through communally sensitive Kharchikarwada and Macchipeeth localities.
The police lobbed 16 teargas shells and fired several rounds in the air to quell the mob, which torched one shop.
Officials said the situation was tense but under control.
Police lobbed teargas shells as people in Ahmedabad's Dhalgarvad neighbourhood threw stones at a victory procession taken out by supporters of BJP candidate Kaushik Patel.
