Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev [ Images ] on Monday threw his weight behind the battered Indian cricket team.

"The team is really down in the dumps in New Zealand. But still I believe they can win the World Cup [in South Africa [ Images ]]," Kapil Dev said in New Delhi [ Images ].

"It is important for me to think that India [ Images ] will make it to the Super Six stage. And after that any team can win on a given day, such is the nature of one-day cricket," he said.

Though he was disappointed with the team's poor performance in New Zealand [ Images ], he said he would like to concentrate on the positives.

"My message for the team is that we are with you. We believe in you. It doesn't matter how they perform. I will stand behind the players.

"With the World Cup round the corner, I do not think we should run them down. They need our good wishes," Kapil Dev said.
