Premier League Middlesbrough were held to a 0-0 draw at Championship (second division) side Sheffield United in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.

United dominated a tight match in which their former England [ Images ] striker James Beattie hit the post with a free kick in first half stoppage time, the closest either side got to a goal.

Portsmouth were away to Preston North End in the later kickoff in their bid to reach Monday's quarter-final draw.

Holders Chelsea [ Images ] and last year's finalists Manchester United [ Images ] both went through on Saturday along with League One (third division) Bristol Rovers and Championship sides Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion [ Images ]. Liverpool were upset 2-1 at home by Barnsley of the Championship.
