Wimbledon [ Images ] will pay women and men equal prize money for the first time at this year's grasscourt Grand Slam, All England [ Images ] Club chairman Tim Phillips said on Thursday.

The tournament joins the Australian and US Opens in paying equal prize money across the board in all events.

Phillips told a media conference at Wimbledon: "In summary, we take the view that this is good for tennis, good for the women players and good for Wimbledon."
