Newly crowned Australian Open [ Images ] champion Serena Williams [ Images ] will join her sister Venus in the United States' Fed Cup match against Belgium in April, US captain Zina Garrison announced Thursday.

Injury-plagued Serena, formerly the world's top player, has raised her ranking from 81 to 15 following her triumph in Melbourne [ Images ] last month.

"We are thrilled to have Serena back on the US Fed Cup team, especially after her tremendous victory at the Australian Open," Garrison said in a statement.

"The last time both Serena and Venus were on the court for a US Fed Cup team was 2003, so it will be an exciting time to see the sisters together again."

The US will face Belgium in a World Group quarter-final tie in Delray Beach, Fla., on April 21-22. Garrison has until 10 days before the quarters to name the other two team members.

Serena Williams is 6-0 overall in Fed Cup play, 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
