Sania Mirza [ Images ] and Liezel Huber of South Africa [ Images ] beat the American pair of Angela Haynes and Neha Uberoi in the first round of the women's doubles at the US Open [ Images ] in New York on Thursday.

11th seeds Mirza and Huber won 6-4, 6-0 to storm into the second round.

They will next face France's [ Images ] Stephanie Cohen-Aloro and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain, who beat Julia Schruff of Germany [ Images ] and Austria's Sybille Bammer 7-5, 6-2.

Earlier, Sania was knocked out of the women's singles by Italian Francesca Schiavone. The Indian ace went down  7-5, 1-6, 2-6, in the second round match.
