Germany hold Holland in thriller

Germany [ Images ] fought back from two goals down to snatch a thrilling 2-2 draw against The Netherlands in the Champions Trophy [ Images ] hockey tournament in Chennai on Sunday night.

In the last match of the day's programme, after Olympic [ Images ] champions Australia [ Images ] had beaten defending champions Spain 4-2 and India [ Images ] rallied to shock Pakistan 3-2, the Dutch and Germans came up with a stirring display.

It was the Dutch who held the edge as they went two goals up at half-time through Roderick Weusthof, who scored in the 15th minute and in stoppage time of the first session.

But the Germans came up with a strong fightback in the second session. They scored twice in four minutes through Christopher Zeller (63rd minute) and Matthias Witthaus (66th) to avert a second straight defeat following the 1-4 loss to Australia in their opening match on Saturday.

Witthaus produced a gem of a goal. He dived to latch on to a cross by Zeller from the left and connected the ball past the Dutch goalkeeper.
