Moya confirms for Tata Open

Former world No. 1 Carlos Moya [ Images ] has confirmed participation in the Tata Open in January 2004.

The Spanish ace feels a good performance in the event will give him the impetus to stay on top of the Champions Race.

"Competing at the Tata Open in Chennai is a great way to start the ATP season. A good performance here will be a great confidence booster and will provide the impetus to stay on top of the champions race during 2004," Moya was quoted as saying in a statement from Tata Services.

It will be his third visit to Chennai.

Meanwhile, Romit Chaterjee, vice-president, Corporate Affairs, Tata Services, said Moya's confirmation is a great sign and augurs well for the tournament.

"Former French Open [ Images ] champion Carlos Moya is an amazing player. Confirmation from players of his calibre so much in advance will go a long way in attracting good talent and help make Tata Open 2004 a roaring success," she said.

The US $400,000 Tata Open is India [ Images ] and South Asia's only ATP International series event and one of only seven in all of Asia. It will be held in Chennai for the eighth consecutive year from January 5 to 11 next year.
