AITA grant for promising juniors

The All India [ Images ] Tennis Association has announced a travel grant of Rs. 25,000 each for three promising junior players.

Chatwinder Singh, Tushar Liberhan and Divij Sharan will be the beneficiaries, according to a statement from the AITA in Delhi [ Images ].

The 17-year-old Chatwinder won the ITF Grade 1 junior event in Sri Lanka [ Images ] in February this year. He was ranked as high as 89 in the juniors list. His schedule in the coming weeks includes the ITF satellite circuit in Mumbai [ Images ], Chandigarh and Delhi.

Liberhan, 16, was the sub-junior national champion in 2001 and, though currently ranked 312, has enjoyed as high a position as 108. He will be participating in the ITF Junior circuit in Morocco, which involves a series of Grade 2 and Grade 4 events.

Sharan, 16, who plays doubles reguarly with Liberhan, will be travelling with the latter to the African continent.

Sharan is the reigning sub-junior national champion and is ranked 190.
