Bhupathi-Mirnyi in French Open quarters

India's [ Images ] Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ] and Max Mirnyi [ Images ] of Belarus comprehensively outplayed the Czech pairing of Frantisek Cermak and Leos Friedl in straight sets on Sunday to book a place in the quarter-finals of the men's doubles event at the French Open [ Images ].

The second-seeded Indo-Belorussian pair won 6-3, 6-2.

In the quarter-finals, they will meet fifth seeds, India's Leander Paes [ Images ] and David Rikl of the Czech Republic, who got the better of the ninth seeds, Australia's [ Images ] Joshua Eagle and American Jared Palmer 6-2, 6-0.

Earlier, in the second round, Paes and Rikl staged a remarkable recovery to beat the US pair of Rick Leach and Brian MacPhie 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Paes was however unfortunate to make an exit in the mixed doubles. He and tennis legend Martina Navratilova were beaten by Corina Morariu of the United States and Jonas Bjorkman [ Images ] of Sweden 6-7 (5), 2-6 in the second round.
