Sidhu hopeful that suspected spy will be released

Bharatiya Janata Party [ Images ] member of Parliament from Amritsar [ Images ] Navjot Singh Sidhu is hopeful that Pakistan government will soon release Sarabjit Singh, awaiting a death sentence for his alleged role in bomb blast cases in Pakistan.

Speaking to rediff.com on Wednesday, the former cricketer, who played a major role in bringing Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur to Delhi [ Images ] and arrange a meeting with External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, is confident that the issue would be resolved once Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh [ Images ] takes it up with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [ Images ].

"We had a good meeting with External Affairs minister Natwar Singh on Tuesday. Dalbir Kaur was very satisfied with the meeting," he told rediff.com.

Asked if he planned to meet President A P J Abdul Kalam [ Images ] to seek his intervention, Sidhu said, "We have been assured that Dr Singh would speak to Musharraf," he added.
