Governors took their own decisions: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [ Images ] on Monday told the Leader of the Opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani [ Images ] that the Centre had no role in the decisions taken by either Goa [ Images ] Governor S C Jamir or Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, Bharatiya Janata Party [ Images ] spokesperson Sushma Swaraj [ Images ] said.

Jamir on February 2 had dismissed Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government hours after it won a controversial trial of strength on the floor of the House.

Razi had invited the United Progressive Alliance [ Images ] to form the government in Jharkhand when the National Democratic Alliance appeared to have the numbers in its favour.

While the NDA paraded 41 MLAs before Razi, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led UPA had submitted only a list of 36 MLAs.

"Delhi [ Images ] had no role and the governors had taken their own decisions," Sushma quoted Singh as saying.

Swaraj said Advani demanded that both governors be recalled.

With regard to Advani's demand for appointment of "honest and competent people with clean image" as advisors to the Bihar governor after the imposition of President's rule, the prime minister assured him that he would "personally ensure that good advisors are appointed," Swaraj said.
