Chhattisgarh: EC to challenge CAT order on transfers

November 26, 2003 16:39 IST

The Election Commission is likely to move the Chhattisgarh high court at Bilaspur on Wednesday challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order, which quashed its directive on transferring district collectors of Jashpur and Bastar in the poll-bound Chhattisgarh.

A division bench of CAT at Jabalpur on Tuesday held that the EC order was 'not only illegal, improper but against all the settled tenets of law and said it did not find anything prejudicial on the part of collectors to have violated the model code Of conduct'.

The Election Commission on October 29 had ordered transfer of Jashpur collector B S Anant and Bastar Collector L N Suryavanshi for 'violating the model code of conduct'.
