Amper seeks DoT permission for GSM testsAmper SA, a Spanish telecommunications manufacturer, has applied to the Department of Telecommunications for permission to begin field trials of its fixed wireless handsets based on GSM technology.
Antonio Fintanini, who is in charge of International business for Amper, said that the equipment is already being tested by Indian cellular operators such as Essar Cellphone, Escotel and Bharti Telecom.
GSM-based receiver sets is one of the many technology options being used by 'wireless in local loop' equipment manufacturers. According to Fintanini, the advantage of using GSM-based WLL sets is that any investment in setting up a network would be able to offer the service simply by installing the equipment since they have already invested in GSM switching equipment.
