Effect of telecom strike is patchyTelephone and telegraph services in many parts of the country were affected as Group C and D telecommunication employees participated in a one-day token strike called by five labour unions yesterday.
Three of the five unions have claimed in press statement that over 200,000 employees participated in the strike.
All telecom employees in Haryana, Assam, the northeastern states, West Bengal, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar and Madras observed the token strike, the unions said.
Most of the telecom employees in Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar and Orissa also participated in the strike.
The All-India Telecom Employees Union Class III, All-India Telegraph Traffic Employees Union Class III, All-India Telecom Administrative Employees Union, Indian Telecom Employees Union Line Staff and All-India Telecom Civil Wing Employees Union are protesting against the proposed corporatisation of the Department of Telecommunications.
