Big Blue puts Kerala in the crosshairsTata-IBM, as part of its strategy to enter the Kerala market, organised an IBM solutions forum Kochi recently.
Emphasising the company's keenness to work in smaller cities and the realness and viability of electronic business solutions, Nipun Mehrotra, general manager, systems, said the IBM facilities would function as a platform for furthering business.
He said the company is focussing on small and medium businesses, as they are the fastest growing end of the market.
Besides, the degree of rationalisation taking place between branded product price-point and the grey market price-point made this a challenging and rewarding segment to work with.
E-business, he said, is not just Internet based transactions but referred to all business activity from sales to operations inventory using the Internet, the intranet and local networks.
According to him, Internet connections in India are projected to increase to 1.3 million by the year 2000 from the present 60,000 connections at present.
"People will use it when they find it effective,'' he said.
