BT offers global support for SAP users in IndiaBritish Telecom will provide SAP users in India transparent access to SAP's global support services.
"BT will provide this service using Concert's Global Packet Network,'' Ravi Sharma, vice-president, operations, BT SAARC region, told reporters in Bangalore recently.
"Concert has telecom nodes in the four metros. A fifth node is under testing in Bangalore.'' British Telecom flagged off the service by conducting a
Concert Communications Company was formed in 1994 by British Telecom and MCI Corp. BT holds 74.1 per cent equity in Concert and MCI 24.9 per cent.
"After the merger talks between BT and MCI collapsed, we (BT) have the first call to buy out the remaining share in Concert,'' Sharma explained.
In India, Concert offers the BT Concert Packet Services. CPS is a global managed data service offered in India through VSNL. Coverage in India is through nodes in the four metros. Other services will only start after regulations in India change said Sharma.
BT's Concert Packet network offers a dedicated managed link to SAP's site in Singapore. It will enable SAP's Indian customers to access a broad spectrum of functions and information services ranging from database support to comprehensive R/3 problem solving.
Remote connection from BT to access SAP's online service system gives users the ability to access SAP expertise for proactive support in problem identification and solutions including correction and other information.
In conjunction with SAP, Concert is offering a fully managed end-to-end service with a single point of contact for all software and network issues.
According to Sharma, at present, in India, only multinationals use the service, as Indian firms are yet to establish global operations. Concert, however, has signed up four SAP users for its CPS service: Kirloskar Electric, Mahindra and Mahindra, Essar Steel and Cromptom Greaves.
Many SAP customers in India are implementing SAP's R/3, a client/server application that unites all business and technical processes in a comprehensive turnkey system.
